Camp

Much Ado About Theatre Camp (originally named Fauquier Youth Theatre Camp (FYTC)) was the brain child of Hannah Butler, Rachel Davis, and Samantha Franklin. The camp was designed as a 2 week, performance-based camp. It was set up to teach the campers about the concepts in theatre that would help them grow as performers and technicians. As the camp has grown and developed, there have been new faces to the staff, new campers, and new theatre, but overall, the camp is designed to teach through performance. Campers learn what it takes to put on a show in three weeks now, instead of two, and what it means to audition for and participate in a large production. Our camp was originally designed for campers aged 14-21 years old.

We have since expanded to now provide 2 camp options. Our June camp is now for ages 14-18 years old and we provide education through putting on a full production. Our July camp is now for ages 7-13 years old and we do a JR production to teach campers how to be in a show, backstage etiquette, and all early aspects of theatre. We play games as well that go back to different theatre lessons. Both camps are done within a 2 week timeframe. All choreography, blocking, and music will be done during that time, with the expectation that campers are learning lines outside of camp hours. These camps are so much fun!

Camp Testimonals

"I have participated in two theatre camps under the direction of Hannah Butler and hope to do many, many more in the future. These camps have taught me so much and have given me the opportunity to grow beyond what I had thought was possible. Hannah truly believes in each and every camp member, and it shows the second the curtain opens. I've seen campers completely transformed from shy, quiet kids into enthusiastic, passionate fireballs of energy by week two. This camp has reminded me of why I love theatre so much. It gives me the opportunity to explore and push myself creatively while working alongside some incredible people. The thing I love most about camp is how incredibly close the cast always grows. We become a loving, caring family of actors and techies who all want nothing more than to lift each other up and create art together. I look forward to participating for as long as I possibly can."
